Full Time: Seneschalstown 2-08 Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-10
Half Time: Seneschalstown 0-05 Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-06

Donaghmore Ashbourne’s 2nd Team opened their 2010 league campaign with an impressive away win over Seneschalstown on Saturday afternoon. The visitors were 1-01 up after 3 minutes with Ross Hanway pointing in the opening minute and Paul Gilligan firing low to the net two minutes later to run into an early 4 point lead. Rory Maguire extended the lead with a free on 8 minutes. Two defensive errors by the visitors allowed the home side to register consecutive points on 10 and 12 minutes respectfully. Midfield pairing Tony Morgan and Kevin Lanigan regained Donaghmore Ashbourne’s 5 point lead when they pointed in the 13th and 17th minute. Both sides traded points in the later stages of the first half with Morgan and Gilligan pointing for the visitors to give Donaghmore Ashbourne a lead at the break on a  1-06 to 0-05 scoreline.

The home side did reduce the deficit to two points early in the second with two unanswered points within minutes of the restart. Donaghmore Ashbourne replied with a great point from the sideline by Rory Maguire and a Paul Gilligan free late in the third quarter to regain their interval lead. The home side did reply again with a goal to leave a single point between the sides going into the final quarter but a Rory Maguire goal on 49 minutes killed off any home side revival. Maguire collected a high long range high ball on the end of the squire to fire high into the roof of the net.
Both sides traded points in the closing stages of the game with substitutes Stephen Kavanagh and Faolán Smith raising the white flag for Donaghmore Ashbourne.
Going into injury time another goal from the home side brought the sides closer but time had run out and Donaghmore Ashbourne ran out 2-10 to 2-08 winners.
Overall it was a good entertaining game with both sides playing open football.
