Division 1A League

Date: Thursday 20th May 2010

Venue: Ashbourne

Full Time: Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-17 Trim 0-07
Half Time: Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-10 Trim 0-03

Heading to the half way stage in the league campaign Donaghmore Ashbourne senior team’s position in the league makes for much better reading for them than it did in 2009. Having failed to secure a league victory this time 12 months ago, they now sit at the other end of the table with 5 wins out of 5 after a comfortable 2-17 to 0-07 home win over Trim last night. Donaghmore Ashbourne gave a great first half display which saw six different names on the score sheet as they led at the interval by 1-10 to 0-03. During the opening half they were much quicker to the ball than the visitors and played smart football throughout. Niall Farrell scored the goal and added a further three points with David Morgan and Andrew Tormey registering a brace of points each. Other scores in the opening period came from Ciaran Ellis, Eoighan Riordan, and Ian Dowd who scored a point each.
The second period of the game was not as intense as the opening half and although the visitors opened with two quick points after the restart and looked to be getting back into the game the hosts closed out the game with 1-04 without reply in the remainder of the third quarter. Points from Kevin Lanigan, Farrell, Tormey and Ellis had increased Donaghmore Ashbourne’s lead before Eoin Reilly fisted to the back of the next to end a fine move.
The final quarter saw both sides going through the motions as the result was already decided and although Trim hit two unanswered points Donaghmore Ashbourne finished strong with Ellis, Riordan and Tormey pointing from play.
Overall it was a good team performance from Donaghmore Ashbourne as they added another two points to their league campaign.
