Division 1 “A” League Time : 3:00 PM HT: Donaghmore / Ashbourne 1-6 Skryne 0-4 The Donaghmore / Ashbourne senior team got their challenge back on track with a confident display against old rivals Skryne. The Donaghmore / Ashbourne lads went on the attack from the throw-in, with David Morgan registering the first point within a minute. A pointed free from Skryne cancelled this out on the third minute, the ball staying in the green half , but Bryan Menton and Eoighan Riordan tracked back to put in some fine defensive play. A good catch from Kevin Lanigan started a fine passing move to Stephen Kavanagh on to Andrew Tormey, who slotted the ball in the net on the sixth minute. Another pass from Ian Dowd found David Morgan, who put the ball over the bar at 7 minutes. Ian Dowd got on the scoresheet himself a minute later. Skryne scored a brace of pointed frees by Paddy O’Rourke, at the 13th and 20th minutes respectively, before John Broderick replied on the 21st minute. A fantastic point from a difficult angle by Andrew Tormey was the result of another Dowd pass on 23 minutes. Eoin Reilly rounded off the Donaghmore / Ashbourne scoring in the first half when he was given an excellent pass by Eoighan Riordan who had very cleverly intercepted an intended Skryne pass. A pointed free for the home side left the scoreline at the break at 1-6 to 04, in favour of Donaghmore / Ashbourne. The Skryne lads were first on the scoresheet after the break, with a pointed free on 3 minutes. Andrew Tormey turned provider for a Bryan Menton point a minute later, and Eoighan Riordan pointed on the 6th minute. Skryne registered a point from play on the 9th minute, wiped out by Andrew Tormey’s free 2 minutes later. The action moved to the Donaghmore half, with John Broderick making a great defensive block , getting the ball forward to Kevin Lanigan who pointed on the 13th minute. An uncharacteristic defensive lapse left an opening for Skryne in the Don/ Ash half, resulting in a goal 14 minutes in. Andrew Tormey scored twice, first from a sideline free, then from play, combining once again with Bryan Menton , slipping in a beautiful pass for Menton’s second point on the 24th minute. Defender Sean Curran got on the scoresheet at the 28th minute, with Skryne pulling one back in the same minute. Faolan Smyth came on for Tormey, Cathal Field and Eric Callaghan came on for Stephen Kavanagh and John Broderick. Barely was Field on the pitch when he had clocked up a point with minutes to go. The final score was 1-15 to 1-7, to Donaghmore / Ashbourne. Team and Scorers |
