Full Time: Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-07 Ballinlough 2-10 Half Time: Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-03 Ballinlough 1-06
Donaghmore Ashbourne’s fourth team made their exit from the Junior D competition at the hands of a much stronger Ballinlough side in Skryne on Sunday evening. The North Meath side had a little more experience and strength in depth than our younger side. On say that considering that this was our 4th team who were playing a second team (some which experience at higher grades) we competed well and battled to the final whistle. Donaghmore Ashbourne opened the scoring with points from Shaun Breslin and Vinny Carton in the opening minutes but Ballinlough replied with a brace mid way through the first quarter. The North Meath side took the lead with long range goal that found the top corner of the net. Donaghmore Ashbourne did reply with a goal when a high ball into the square fell to Declan Mulvey who forced it over the line. Further points from Ballinlough towards the end of the first half gave them a 1-06 to 1-03 lead at the break. The second half saw the Ballinlough side take control on the middle of the field and they managed to keep knocking over the scores throughout the half. Although Donaghmore Ashbourne did register a few scores to stay in the game a second Ballinlough goal closed out the game. If one can take a positive note from a defeat many of the Donaghmore Ashbourne players gained their first tatse of adult championship football and with a togged out panel of 27 on the night excluding injured players the future is bright for the club.
