On a historic weekend for the Donaghmore Ashbourne Adult football our fourth team capped off the weekend in style. The first historic point of note was the fact that this was the first time in the club’s history to field 4 teams in championship football, a feat that is unrivalled in Meath football.  Not alone did this team manage to just field a team to make up numbers but the victory over Drumbaragh gave the club an impressive 4 wins out of 4 games in 4 different championship grades over the weekend. In addition the weekend saw 71 different players take to the field with a number of players not fielding due to injury and unavailability.
In this game it was Drumbaragh who started the brightest and led by 1-02 to 0-00 after 6 minutes. Donaghmore Ashbourne opened the scoring with John Mc Leenan on 8 minutes before Drumbaragh replied with a free a minute later. Donaghmore Ashbourne’s second score of the game came at the end of the first quarter with a Vinny Carton free.
The second quarter saw Donaghmore Ashbourne settle into the game and during this period they had the better possession and although they hit a number of wides they did manage to register 4 unanswered points  to enter the interval level at 0-06 to 1-03.
The second half saw the blend of youth and experience work well throughout the field and with the defence not in a generous mood we restricted the opposition to three second half scores. Meanwhile at the other end of the field good movement, support play and passing was rewarded with 9 points during this period as we ran out 0-15 to 1-06 winners.
Overall it was a great team performance from a team making its championship debut.
