Tuesday April 28th – Ashbourne

Full-time; Donaghmore/Ashbourne 4-9 Meath Hill 0-5
Half-time; Donaghmore/Ashbourne 2-4 Meath Hill 0-4

Table toppers Donaghmore/Ashbourne entered this game well aware of the defeat suffered by their Junior A’s against Meath Hill the previous week. That thought was put firmly behind as the home side dominated the north Meath side from the throw-in.
Leon Tormey gave an outstanding display of fielding and movement and this was buoyed by a steely display from full forward Ross Tormey.
The opening score of the game came from Gary Lawlor who ventured forward to tap over the bar for a point. This was added to with a point from Vinny Carton and a goal from Declan Mulvey. Meath Hill responded with a brace of points but the home side would not lie down. The Donaghmore/Ashbourne forwards were feeding well from Leon Tormey’s exploits at midfield. Ross Tormey opened his account with a point before Declan Mulvey found himself infront of goal again. He duly dispatched to the net to open a sizeable lead. The visitors added two more points but they were becoming increasingly demoralised. Brian Fitzgerald finished the scoring in the opening period with a point.
Donaghmore/Ashbourne stepped up a gear in the second half showing no mercy on the north Meath visitors. Ross Tormey was finding plenty of possession and opened the period with a brace of points. Vinny Carton added a point from a free as half back Rossa O’Donnell ventured forward to add another. By the midway point in the half Leon Tormey was dominating the middle of the park and he fed Ross Tormey to crash the ball to the net. This finished the game as a contest. Meath Hill could only muster a single point in the second period. Substitute Sean Benville completed the scoring for the home side with a point.

A true sign of Donaghmore/Ashbournes’ much sharper cutting edge was evident in the way seven players got on the scoresheet. Much of the time the home side’s goalkeeper Gerry Kelly was a spectator.
Donaghmore/Ashbourne always looked like they could move up gears if required and the closing stages were played out as if both sides were merely going through the motions. Long before the final whistle the winner was declared.
