U19 Ladies Football

The U-19 Ladies Quarter Final match against Oldcastle in Oldcastle did not take place last night. Referee Michael Ryan refused to allow the match to proceed, given the condition of the pitch, which had been covered in rows of stones, apparently to assist with drainage. The pitch was deemed unsuitable to play on. We will notify regarding rescheduling of the clash.

Minors make it to Final

Well done to our minor team who qualified for the C Championship final after a close finish in the club yesterday. Our lads who had a comfortable lead at the break had to withstand a strong Rathmoylon second half challenge but managed to hold out for a 2 point win in the end. We hope to have a match report available later.

Camogie Team enjoy comfortable win

Well done to our adult camogie team who got their league campaign back on track with a good home win over Boardsmill on Saturday evening.

Senior Footballers lose again in the league

Our Senior football team lost their second game of the Division 1A campaign when they travelled to play Blackhall Gaels away. The lads had enough possession to run out winners but trailed at full time on a score line of 1-09 to 1-08.

Other News

Our Junior football team enjoyed a good win away to neighbours Kilbride on Sunday morning in a challenge match.

Our Under 16 team had enjoyed a good home win against Maynooth on Saturday evening.

In the NDFL our Under 11 team recorded a good home win over Raheny.

Thursday 19th February

Minor Hurling Semi Final Replay

Our minor hurlers will replay their semi-final against Rathmolyon, in Ashbourne, this Sunday 22nd February at 2 o’clock. The first match ended in a draw after a magnificent team performance in the second half that took the game to extra time. Unfortunately, the match was cut short, due to lighting problems, with our lads ahead by a point. If the match on Sunday turns out to be half as good as the second half and extra time of their first match, this is a match you won’t want to miss. And if our lads play the whole match as well as they did the second half onwards the last day, then we will have a Minor Final to contest for the first time in quite a while, and possibly a Minor Double for the club, for the first time in even longer.

Division 1A League - Time Change

There has been a change of time for our Division 1 A League match on Sunday 22nd February.

The match will now take place at 3.30pm in Batterstown.

Monday 2nd February

Minor Hurlers to go again
Despite trailing by 14 points at half time our minor hurling team gave a great second half performance to draw level and bring the game against Rathmoloyn into extra time. Although we took the lead in the first period of extra time the game was abandoned due to poor light. As a result both teams must do it all over again.

Ladies Under 19 in Action this weekend
Good luck to our ladies Under 19 team as they travel to Oldcastle this coming Sunday where they look to add the 2008 title to their 2007 Minor win. The game throws in at 2.00pm.

Cl
ub Referee's awarded
Well done to our two club referee's who received presentations at the annual awards ceremony recently. Joe Synott was presented with an award after having the honour of refereeing at the Junior D Football final earlier in the year. Our Hurling referee Ronan Garry was also awarded for being the man in the middle at one of the Junior Final. Well done to both men who, like all club referees play an important role in the club.

Friday 30th January

New Fleece Lined Jackets in Stock
Following a number of enquiries over the recent weeks we have managed to source fleece lined jackets. Our first delivery has been received in the club shop and so far they are proving popular. The jackets are supplied by Liston Leisure and are very reasonably priced at €40 each. For further details please contact Laura at the reception.

Club Person of the Year

Well done to Gerry Giblin who received the Owen O'Sullivan Trophy when he was named as Club Person of the year at the dinner dance last week. Gerry's contribution to the club in 2008 included Chairman of the Lotto Committee, Under 16 football Mentor, Under 14 Camogie Mentor and he was invaluable organising the security and stewarding during the official opening last may. A very popular winner indeed

Structure Review Committee
The club executive has set up a committee with the following objective:

To review club structures, management and operation, now in place and make recommendations regarding future requirements to ensure best practice in the areas of finance, playing personnel and future planning as in top clubs of a similar size.
The work will include consultation with the Executive Committee and key stake holders.

We have seen our club grow from strength to strength in recent years and are now preparing to move to the next level. In order to do so, it is vital that we have the correct structures in place, in terms of best practice in the areas of games development, financial management, facilities management and enjoyment and satisfaction.
We would welcome suggestions from members in this regard to any member of the committee. A report and recommendation will be presented to the Executive Committee by the 31st January 2009

Committee:
John Harmon 086 857 5495 (Chairperson)
Kathleen Tormey 086 165 3020
Brendan O'Connor
