Halloween Heartbreak in Navan
As Donaghmore Ashbourne supporters headed out of Pairc Tailteann this evening they couldn’t but be reminded of Al Pacino’s character Tony D'Amato’s inspirational speech in the film Any Given Sunday where the game is all about inches. This could sum up the Division 1 league final today where our lads lost out to Summerhill by a single point on a final score line of 2-05 to 0-11. Overall our lads could not be faulted for commitment, effort and hard work but again with maybe a bit of lady luck or possibly experience or composure and it could have been a different result.
We gave away a penalty in the 6th minute and recovered to look to go in at the interval ahead but a sloppy goal on 26 minutes gave the Hill a 2-01 to 0-06 half time lead. Even in the second half we had regained the lead by the 37th minute when we were rewarded a penalty. Unfortunately Andrew Tormey’s effort was saved and Summerhill replied with 4 answered points. Two late points from our lads was not enough to force the game into extra time. It would be unfair to blame any one player for the result as everyone gave their all and although overall it was a very entertaining game it’s  no consolation  for losing a league final and being crowned top league team in the county. Well done to our Under 21 second team who booked a place in the C Championship Semi Final after a comfortable 1-12 to 0-03 win over Drumconrath in Sensechalstown this morning. The Semi final is provisionally fixed for Friday Night with venue and time to be confirmed. Click here for match report

Seniors Book place in League Final

Our senior team booked a place in the 2010 Division 1 League final after a hard earned victory over Walterstown earlier today. Although we ran out 1-10 to 0-07 winners it was far from comforable for a lot of the game. Despite having a lot of the possesion in the first half we trailed at the interval by 0-06 to 0-03. Even at the end of the third quarter we still trailed the visitors by a point however a goal by Ian Dowd on 46 minutes was the turning point and we managed five further points in the final quarter. Our lads play Summerhill in the final with no date fixed for this game yet. Match report to follow.

Donaghmore Ashbourne Capture Paul Martin Cup

Well done to the team who travelled to Kilawley in Fermanagh for the Paul Martin Memorial match. Our lads managed to overturn last years result to take the cup home. More details to follow.

Junior C Score Prediction Winners

Well done to David Lambe and Barry Mc Tuigan who collected the prize money in the recent Junior C Final Score prediction competition. Both lads had predicted a final score of Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-16 Nobber 0-12.  As the actual final score was 3-10 to 0-12  these were the closet predictions as both totals were correct. David's prediction was sold by Paddy Warren and Barry's was sold by Brendan Murphy. Both lads collected  100 euro each.

All-Ireland Forecast Competition Winners

The prize fund of Euro 300 is shared equally between the four winners who correctly predicted 7 out of 12 winners of the All-Ireland Football and Hurling competitions.

The four winners, who each get 75 Euro are:

Ciaran Giblin , Ashbourne - sold by J Walsh

Paul O Connor, Curraha - sold by J Walsh

Division 3B team lose valuable point.

Our Division 3B lost out on the opportunity to guarantee a place in the Division 3B league final on Friday night when the drew with fellow promotion chasers Dunderry at home with a score line of 2-10 to 1-13. Fielding a weaker side than the championship winning side on Sunday we were 2-04 to 0-00 ahead after 18 minutes and had plenty of chances to close out the game and take full points. We paid the price and a late converted 45 kick  4 minutes into injury time gave the visitors a share of the spoils. Match report to follow.
