It was a disappointing start to the Championship for the Don/Ash Junior camogie team. They faced tough opposition from Trim’s junior side. Trim dominated from the beginning and scored the first point in the third minute of the game. Two minutes later they were awarded a  45 which no 8 for Trim placed over the bar.  Trim continued applying pressure on the backs and despite some great clearances from Ger Keane and excellent work rate from Cathy Giblen they managed to put another 2-4 on the score sheet by half time. Don/Ash’s solitary score came from Maggie Randel who managed to secure a point 17minutes into the first half. However the score line does not adequately reflect the work rate of the forwards as they did retain a good bit of possession but unfortunately hit a lot of wides.
Half Time: Don/Ash 0-1 Trim 2-6
The second half saw a more evenly matched game and Donaghmore Ashbourne began to take back control of the game. Maggie Randel gave a performance beyond her years sending numerous balls into the forwards. Sarah Keagan was the first to capitalise on these balls that were being fed in  by putting the sliotar in the back of the net. Katherine Mulhaire was quick to follow on the trend by scoring an excellent goal. Unfortunately the home side’s efforts came too late in the game and Trim continued causing problems for the backs who managed to put another three points over the bar in the second half.
