Intermediate Camogie Championship

Donaghmore /Ashbourne  vs V Na Fianna

Date:    21 June 2010

Venue:  Enfield

Time:    7:30 PM

Our intermediate camogie girls suffered a very disappointing defeat to Na Fianna in their latest championship match. The first score of the match did not take long at all with Lizzie Lynch-Broderick putting a point on the board 3mins into the game. She then managed to secure another two points by the 12th minute. Bronagh Gaughan subsequently scored a superb goal during the 16th minute which put us in the lead at 1-3 to 1-1. This great start by our girls was unfortunately short-lived as Na Fianna were not willing to give in easily and put up a good fight in the first half. This left the half time score Don/Ash 1-3 Na Fianna 1-3.

Lizzie Lynch-Broderick again got us off to a flying start by scoring a great point from a free. It did not take long for Na Fianna to come back and score a point in retaliation leaving us drawn once more. Alison Fitzgerald was in a great position when the sliotar was shot in from half-forward, as she pulled on the moving ball and fired it into the back of the net. Our goal was yet again matched by Na Fianna in the 21st minute. It was hard to predict what way the game would end as each team battled fiercely to secure the victory. Lizzie scored yet another point which was frustratingly beaten 2 minutes later as Na Fianna scored a goal giving them the lead for the first time in the match. A beautiful goal was scored by Lizzie in the 31st minute which gave great hope to our girls, only to have it torn away from us when Na Fianna scored the final goal of the match leaving the final score Don/Ash 3-5 Na Fianna 4-4.
