Trim v Don/Ash

Donaghmore Ashbourne made their debut onto the senior camogie scene yesterday when they played away to Trim. The conditions in Trim were far from ideal with the cold January morning temperatures only reaching half a degree when the sliotar was thrown in. The match itself on the other hand heated up very quickly with neither team showing any signs of winter cobwebs. The first score of the match came from Donaghmore Ashbourne when Alison Fitzgerald struck the ball into the back of the net. Trim were quick to reply with a point and both teams were evenly matched throughout the rest of the first half although Trim capitalised on most of their scoring opportunities and secured three more points before the end of the first half.

Half Time: Trim 0-4 Don/Ash 1-0

Donaghmore Ashbourne's two youngest players Sorcha Ferry and Megan O Brien were a constant hazard to the Trim goalkeeper and their hard work feeding the ball into the full forwards resulted in another goal from Alison Fitzgerald. Trim didn't allow Donaghmore/Ashbourne to hold on to their lead for long and quickly found the back of the net. The Don/Ash backs were impenetrable for the next fifthteen minutes despite severe pressure from Trim. Roisin Williams and Emma Tormey in particular made life difficult for the Trim forwards. The final Donaghmore/Ashbourne score came from a lovely point from Sorcha Ferry. Despite the evenness of both teams Trim's experience at playing a higher paced game shone through in the final ten minutes. The Ashbourne girls seemed to run out of stream which Trim took advantage of by scoring an unanswered goal and three points in the final minutes of the game.

Final Score: Trim 2-7 Don/Ash 2-2

Don/Ash: A. Ferry, E. Keavney, E. Tormey, L. Dervan, D. Burnell, R. Williams, L. Cronolly, M. Finn, S. Baxter, L. Lynch(0-1), B.Gaughan, A. O Neill, S.Ferry(0-1).
