Donaghmore Ashbourne v Dundery 22-4-10 The Don/Ash camogie team got off to a great start in the Intermediate Championship last Wednesday night. The Don/Ash ladies are still playing at the intensity and speed they became accustomed to in the Senior league and before Dunderry had a chance to settle Alison Fitzgerald had the sliotar in the back of the net within the first minute of the game. Two minutes later Lizzy Broderick-Lynch had placed the Ball over the bar. Dunderry only managed to break past the mid field line three times in the first half. However the impenetrable Don/Ash backline made life very difficult for the Dunderry girls and their only score in the first half of the game came from a free in the 32nd minute. Half Time Score: Don/Ash 2-4 Dunderry 0-1 Dunderry came back at half time with a great deal more determination and their efforts paid off when they were the first team to raise the umpire’s flag after scoring a goal in the 34th minute. However their determination could only go so far in impede on the great team effort from Don/Ash who continued to dominate right up until the very end of the game. Bronagh Gaughan who was directing much of the play from half forward put her name on the score sheet when she put a 45 free over the bar. Alison Fitzgerald scored her second goal of the day four minutes later. Aideen Ferry came on to replace Jenny Long and within seconds had scored a point and a goal which was unfortunately disallowed as a square ball. An error that can easily be forgiven considering Aideen usually spends most of her time in the square defending our goals. Further points where added by Lizzy Broderick Lynch, Aoife O Neill and Liz Keagan. Overall it was a great performance from the team and hopefully an indication of how the championship will continue for us. The combination of hard work and team play meant that there was little any team could do to match contend with us and if this form continues there could be some more silverware in the Don/Ash camogie cabinet this September. Full time: Don/Ash 3-11 Dunderry 1-1 Don/Ash: M. Roche, D. Burnell, E. Tormey, L. Dervan, E. Carberry, E. Keavney, R. Williams, L. Keagan(0-1), J. Long, M. Finn, B. Gaughan(0-1), L.Lynch-Broderick(1-7), A. O Neill(0-1), S. Baxter, A. Fitzgerald(2-0). Subs: A. Ferry(0-1) for Long, C. Corcoran, S. Keagan.
