Our under 16's took to the field in the 4th round of the Under 16 Championship to play Boardsmill. We struggled to get the minimum 12 players to fulfil the fixture but with help from some of the Under 14's we had a team. Boardsmill traveled with 16 and as was their prerogative they fielded 15 against our 12. Having won the toss Don\Ash opted to play with the aid of a slight breeze in the 1st half. Boardsmill with their superior numbers threatened to overwhelm us in the first half. The girls put an enormous amount of work in to and forced Boardsmill to work hard for every score they got and after 15 minutes we were only trailing by two points. As the game progressed Don\Ash came more and more in control. Maggie Randle gave a fine solo run which finished by putting the sliotar into the back of the net with a blinding shot. Boardsmill could not believe what was happening and after more Don\Ash pressure Shelby Leahy sent over a fine point.

Half time: Don\Ash 1 01 Boardsmill 0 02.

The early part of the 2nd half was very even and as the half wore on Boardsmill's 3 extra players began to take their toll. A couple of goals went in followed by 2 points for Boardsmill .However our girls never gave up and made Boardsmill fight for everything. Boardsmill did manage another goal and a point late on but in the never say die attitude of the girls we finished with the last score of the game, a point by Maggie Randle which could have gone under the bar as easy as over . This was a tremendous team effort and every one of the girls should be very proud of their performance.

Final score: Don\Ash 1 02 Boardsmill 3 05.

Team:  Rebecca Wilson , CathyAnne Giblin, Ellen Curley , Sarah O'Connor , Shelby Leahy , Emily Pearlman , Maggie Randle , Eimear Murray , Katie Byrne , Lauren Battersby , Grace 'Jean Butler' Beggy and Niamh Brophy.
