Familiar rivals Donaghmore Ashbourne and Ratoath took to the camogie pitch for the first time in this year’s championship.  Both teams gave the supporters more than they could have anticipated in one of the most highly competitive games of camogie this year.
It started off with Donaghmore Ashbourne very much in control and in the first 7minutes of the game they had put 2-2 on the scoresheet with Ratoath only managing a single score from a free in the same period. Ratoath have never been a team to give up easily and true to form began to retaliate. They held Donaghmore to a single point within the next 2ominutes of the first half and notched up another four points bring the half time score to Don/Ash 2-3 Rataoth 0-5.
Rataoth came back stronger again in the second half and Sinead Beagan and Siobhan Laffey at half
forward put the Don/Ash half back line under severe pressure.  Sinead was the first to start off the scoring in the second half with a point coming from a free. Siobhan sent the sliotar into the back of the net moments later. Emma Tormey and Lorna Dervan battled well in the backs for Don/Ash but despite their efforts to maintain Donaghmore’s lead Laffey managed to break through and score a goal putting Ratoath ahead for the first time in the game in the 58th minute. Donaghmore/ Ashbourne determined to secure a win began to attack and it paid off when Liz Keagan hammered in a low ball to the back to Ratoath’s goal. This game was not over yet though and in the final minute of injury time Laffey ran the pitch and buried the ball in the back of the net giving them the victory by two points.
