Donaghmore/Ashbourne v Ratoath

Venue: Donaghmore/Ashbourne Clubhouse.

Throw in: 7.00pm

This game was to be the most anticipated match of the chamionship so far this season. The Intermediate girls knew a win from this game would put a great boost to their chamionship.

The game began with a very physical game, seeing Eimear Keavney leaving the game in the opening minutes of the match due to injury, replaced by Liz Keegan. From this, both teams fought to get the first score from the match. This fight paid off and not to long into the game the first score was put on the board by Alison Fitzgerald, scoring a great goal to boost the start the Donaghmore ladies were looking for. The next score of the game was for Ratoath, winning a free and putting it over the bar for their first point of the day, and only for the first half. A free from Liz Keegan put another score on the board for the home team. Ratoath fought back to try and get another score but did not succeed, the Donaghmore backlines keeping them at bay. Alison Fitzgerald secured another score to the board by scoring another point. Just before the close of the half, a point from Bronagh Gaughan put the home team in a comfortable position before half time.

Half Time: Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1:3 Ratoath 0:1

Coming back out after half time the girls knew the match would have to be brought up a gear to keep this win and fight against a very strong wind. Shortly after the break Ratoath recived a free to put their first point back on the board for the second half. Strong attacks from Ratoath seen our backline under great pressure but they remained very composed, defending attacks only reulting in 45's. Another score was put on the board by Ratoath. The strong wind seen the ball dominate in the Donaghmore backline, before Ratoath scored another point from a free. The last battle from the second seen the whole intermediate team fight for each other, seeing the forwards unite with the backs to prevent any more scores. The last score of the match was put over the bar by Ratoath as a result of yet another free, but this was not enough for them to secure the game.

Full time score: Donaghmore\Ashbourne 1:3 Ratoath 0:1

The game seen the team for the firast time all year fight for each other on every position of the field. This win gives the Camogie girls a great boost of confidence going into their second leg of games which begins in two weeks time.
