Donaghmore/Ashbourne v Kilmessan

Intermediate Championship 2011

Venue: Donaghmore/Ashbourne Clubhouse Throw in: 7.30pm

This game was the first game of the second leg of the 2011 championship and the last home game for the Donaghmore/Ashbourne team. Kilmessan opened the game by scoring a point from a free. Shortly afterwards, Roisin Williams drew the sides, by scoring a point from a free. Not much longer after the same , Roisin Williams scored yet again. Putting a score into the back of the net from another free, pulling the home side ahead. Both teams fought hard to get some more scores on the board. One of which was from the Donaghmore/Ashbourne side, seeing Liz Keegan display a fantastic run from the half back line to the full forward line, forwarding a great pass on to Maggie Randall, who was very unfortunate not to get a score from the same. The Donaghmore/Ashbourne full back line displayed great defending skills, keeping scoring opportunities from the oppositition at bay. Just before half time, Sinead Baxter scored a point for the home side.

Half time score: Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1:02 Kilmessan 0:1

As the sides changed positions on the field, the Donaghmore/Ashbourne team knew that the strong wind be against them in the second half. Shortly after the second half began, Kilmessan opened up the game by scoring two points from play. Great defending was shown from the home team as a whole, seeing Maggie Randall and Sinead Baxter moving upfield to help the back lines defend their lead. Although, this was not enough. Kilmessan scored another three points shortly after, two of which were from frees. The home side showed great fight and determination to keep the Kilmessan side from scoring any goals, especially the home sides full back and captain, Emma Tormey.  A last shot on goal by the home team, seen Alison Fitzgerald unfortunately miss a shot on goal. Another two points by the opposition seen the Kilmessan secure their win.

Full time score: Donaghmore\Ashbourne 1:02 Kilmessan 0:8
