Division 4B Round 6 Venue: Ashbourne Date: 3rd July 2009 Full Time: Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-22 Blackhall Gaels1-05 Half Time: Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-09 Blackhall Gaels 1-03 Donaghmore Ashbourne’s third team had a comfortable home win over a weakened Blackhall Gaels in this league encounter. Struggling for numbers Blackhall Gaels must be complimented for travelling and fulfilling the fixture when the easy option would have been to concede a walkover. Although the score board indicated a comprehensive victory the performance, particularly in the first was not one of the home side’s best performances this season. Donaghmore Ashbourne were guilty of overplaying the ball, poor option taking and although having an extra man for a period poor marking. Having started brightly with two quick points Donaghmore Ashbourne were guilty of trying to walk the ball into the net or were guilty of poor shooting. They paid the price on 10 minutes when Blackhall Gaels took the lead with a goal against the run of play. Donaghmore Ashbourne did manage to gain control of the game and led at the break by 1-09 to 1-03 with the goal coming from Sean Keenan. Having reorganised at the break the home side played a much better quality of football and moved the ball much quicker. During this period the fitter home side, coupled with the ability to bring in fresh players opened up the Gaels defence with good movement and good passing and ran out comfortable winners. Overall it was mission accomplished, another 2 points on the board and a step closer to promotion. Donaghmore Ashbourne: M. Davis; M. Roche, E. Caffery, N. Moran; R. O’Donnell, P. Finn, R. Hanway(0-5)(2f), L. Tormey(0-3), T. Cotter; C. Field(0-2), R. Tormey(1-03), D. Mulvey(0-4); S. Rock, S. Keenan(1-0), V. Carton(0-2). Subs: N. Fitzpatrick for Hanway, E. Cawley (0-2) for Keenan, P.
