Superstars of the Future
Congratulations to all the boys and girls who took part in this years Hurling and Camogie Street Leagues.
This year the club organised a street leagues initiative in an effort to develop an interest in hurling and camogie within the children of Ashbourne, and to introduce the hurl as something that can be used for more than just air guitar concerts or rifle practice.

The initiative took place over 4 weeks in June, with over 80 children between the ages of 5 and 9, taking part. Each evening consisted of hour long sessions, with the last half hour containing a match in which the kids could apply the skills they had learned on the field of play and show off in front of mammy and daddy. ![]() As the 4 weeks drew to an end, all the different individual skills started to shine through. Some showed a great ability in ground hurling, some in the air. Others embraced the physical aspect of the sport with open arms, and then there were others who chose to ignore the idea of positions and tuned into the psyche of a greyhound chasing that elusive hare of a sliotar for the entirety of the match, without neccesarily getting a touch, but that didn't dent their enthusiasm in any way, they were right back on it's tail in the next match.
So a big thank you to all the children who took part, all the parents who came out in support, and to all the coaches and others that helped make it a great time for all. I hope to see you again next year.
