Venue: Dunderry

Full Time:  Dunderry 2-09 Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-17
Half Time:  Dunderry 1-05 Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-09

Donaghmore Ashbourne gave a good team performance to run out narrow winners in this tough encounter in Dunderry on Saturday evening.
The visitors started off the brightest and led by 4 points after 7 minutes with David Carey and Sean Fox sharing the opening scores. The home side’s opening score reduced the deficit to a point as they fired home a close range goal on 8 minutes. Another Carey point on 9 minutes extended the visitors lead.

For most of the second quarter the home side had the better of the exchanges and managed 5 unanswered points to look to be heading to the interval with the lead.

However a late flurry by the visitors saw 4 unanswered points scored in consecutive minutes before the break with an Adrian Mc Manus free from 70 meters out the pick of these scores.

The second half was another tough affair with both sides going for the victory. Donaghmore Ashbourne extended the lead after the restart with points from Carey and Andrew Byrne. Although the home side replied with a point on 38 minutes Donaghmore Ashbourne managed 4 unanswered points mid way through the half to give them a comfortable 6 point lead.

The home side did get a lifeline on 54 minutes when they found the back of the net with their second goal of the game and this was followed up with three further points to level the sides going into the closing stages however the visitors defended well and with injury time points from Carey and Mc Manus they managed to run out narrow winners.

Overall it was a good team performance from Donaghmore Ashbourne but both sides will be happy with the tough competitive encounter with the championship just around the corner.
