Minors play semi-final
Our minors were out in the semi final of the Championship Shield last Sunday, the 15th. Unfortunately they came up against a very strong Dunderry side, so the lads had a challenge on their hands. But there’s nothing an Ashbourne side loves quite like a challenge! So they proceeded to tackle said challenge head on.

Both teams came out strong in the first half and it looked like we were going to be treated to quite a spectacle on the field. Our lads were going well and they looked strong going forward, with Davy Carey scoring from frees every time the Dunderry backline stopped our lads illegally. Our defence was playing well and keeping Dunderry out in the beginning, but then the opposition snuck through and scored a goal, and with that the floodgates burst open. The first half ended with Dunderry well ahead 4-4 to 0-4.

Our lads picked up their workrate at the beginning of the 2nd half. But Dunderry didn’t let them breathe with all the pressure they put on them. The half was a defensive battle for our team and they killed themselves in an effort to keep Dunderry at bay. Dunderry pushed on in the 2nd half with some very nice scores and their tally of goals were enough to crush the spirits of any side, but not our lads, who never gave up the fight. Sadly even with their huge effort, Dunderry beat them 6-12 to 0-6.

This puts us out of this years Championship. But all you Minor hurling fanatics need not despair, as the minor league will begin in July.
