Championship Quarter Final 2010 - 14/3/10

Our minor hurlers were out last Sunday morning, the 14th March, against Moylough/Kilscyre in the Quarter-Final of the Minor B Championship. Our lads were out to seek retribution for the narrow one point defeat they suffered to the same opponents a week earlier in the league.

Moylough started off strong, playing against the wind in the first half, and within the first quarter they were in on goal and crashed it to the back of the net. Things were looking bleak at that stage of the game for our lads, but the goal gave them the kick start they needed and sparked them into life. With this new lease of life, they began pressing forward and making the most of the wind advantage that they had. Some lovely points from play by Martin Quinn, Seán Markham, Colm Randle and with Davy Carey on target with his free taking, Ashbourne went in ahead at the half time whistle with a scoreline of 0-7 to 1-2.

The wind didn’t ease off in the second half for our lads so they knew they would have to take to the field in the second half with the same gusto which they finished the first. And this is just what they did. They pushed on and a point from a Davy Carey free pushed them further ahead on the scoreboard. But the opposition weren’t going to let themselves be put out of the competition with any ease and they began to press hard with the wind at their backs. They had the game pulled back level with 10 minutes to go, and all was to play for. This is when the Ashbourne lads showed their character and pushed for their semi-final place. And with a goal and a point scored from play from Davy Carey they won out the game with a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-6.

They will play their semi-final against Kildalkey, at home in Killegland, this coming Sunday.  Time TBC.
