Minor Football League

Wednesday 15th July, Ashbourne

Donaghmore Ashbourne  0-10
Simonstown Gaels             0-8

Donaghmore Ashbourne eventually came out on top in this closely contested Minor League encounter at Ashbourne on Wednesday.
The home side opened the scoring from a Gavin Kennedy free but thanks to a series of missed opportunities in front of goal found themselves trailing by 3 points to 1 midway through the first half. However, points from Shane Melia and Gavin Kennedy left the sides level at the interval.

Simonstown got the first 2 point of the second half but these were quickly cancelled out by points from Ciaran Buckley and Kennedy. Simonstown went two clear again but once more the home side levelled with points from Colin O Sulivan (free) and Cormac Fagan.
Gavin Kennedy then put Donaghmore/Ashbourne a point in front but again Simonstown levelled at 8 points each. However, with Bryan Menton and Steven Kavanagh getting on top at midfield the home side pushed on for a well deserved win thanks to two late points from Kennedy and wing back Daithi Murtagh.

It was a good all round team performance from Donaghmore Ashbourne with the goalkeeper and all six backs putting in great displays. Menton and Kavanagh did well at midfield whilst Gavin Kennedy and Shane Melia were best of the forwards.
