Donaghmore Ashbourne gave another impressive team performance as they saw off Na Fianna with a good win in the Division 1 minor league on Friday Night. Although the final score showed a very comfortable winning margin between the teams there was little between the teams for the opening period as both sides played good open competitive football. In fact it was only in the final quarter when the visitors pulled away from the hosts and managed 1-07 without reply. For Donaghmore Ashbourne who booked a place in the playoff places of the competition the management team were satisfied with the work rate of the side as all the players worked as hard off the ball as they did when in possession. With Mattie Devine driving the team forward this was not a one man show as the scores were shared among eight players. At the opposite end of the field Donaghmore Ashbourne’s defence were not in a generous mood as they made life difficult for the home side’s forward line. Goal keeper Sean Kent also played his part when he denied the home side a goal as he pulled off a penalty save in the second period.
With one game to go in the competition Donaghmore Ashbourne look to be improving with every game. Overall it was a good team performance with Keith Callaghan, David Carey, Daragh Curran and Conor Walsh leading by example. Donaghmore Ashbourne: S. Kent; C. Walsh, K. Callaghan, M. Mc Cabe; O. O’Donnell, S. Melia, G. Deery(0-1); D. Curran, D. Carey(0-1); E. Rogers (0-1), M. Devine (0-7) (3f), C. Fagan (1-3); C. Buckley (1-2), S. Markham, D. Murtagh (0-2)
Subs: H. Devoy(1-0) for Markham, C. Carton for O Donnell, T. O’Connor for Buckley, N. Brady for Mc Cabe, M. Nugent for Carey.
