Ladies’ Senior League

7th April 2009

Full Time score. St Michaels 1-8, Donaghmore Ashbourne 3-12.

Another hard-working performance saw our ladies senior team extend their unbeaten league run to four games, in atrocious weather conditions at Carlinstown, against last year’s Intermediate Champions, St Michaels. Playing into driving wind and rain, we conceded 2 early scored frees as the conditions and some strict refereeing made judging the tackle very difficult. The key to our first half performance was our resolute defending, and some slick short passing and ball retention into the elements that paid off with 2 great goals in quick succession on 6 and 13 mins from Ali Fitzgerald.  2 earlier points from Hayley saw us turn at the break just a point down, trailing 1-6 to 2-2.
With the wind and rain at our backs we were set to let loose in the second half, which we certainly did with the equalising point from Caitriona straight from the throw –in, and a crucial goal from Ailish on 32 mins that was to established our dominance for the remainder of the half. Following this great start to the second half there was no looking back as we outscored St Michaels by 1-10 to 2pts for the half, with Jenny, Eva, Caitriona, Hayley and Ali Leahy all tacking on valuable points.
Next up in the league are County Champions Seneschalstown.
