The Senior Ladies’ third round Championship clash with St Michael’s  got off to a flying start, with Donaghmore/Ashbourne winning the ball from throw in , working it up to Hayley, who scored our first point of the match. We won the kick-out , and the ball sent straight back into the opposition goalmouth, where it was fumbled out by a defender for a 45. Eva pointed from the 45,  but the resulting kick-out was  won by St Michael’s, who worked the ball down to notch up their first point.  Donaghmore/ Ashbourne got their passing game going, taking the ball upfield, but the scoring attempt was stopped by the opposition goalie, who then dropped the ball over the line, resulting in another 45 for us. Jenny took the 45 short, to Anna who scored her first point of the day. Kyna put over another point, and action then moved to the other end of the pitch, where Ciara in goals made a fine save.  Eva was magnificent in midfield, winning and both working the ball up herself and distributing it well also. Eva put up another point for us before a goal-line scramble after Donaghmore/ Ashbourne had a 45, resulted in our being  awarded a penalty. This was duly converted by Hayley, adding a goal to her tally. Hayley Jenkinson came on for Aisling. St Michael’s got their second point from a well-taken free, and followed this up with a point which initially appeared to have gone into the net for a goal. After comprehensive checking by umpires and referee, it was deemed a point. The last score before the break was a pointed free from Eva to leave the scores at 1-6 to 0-3.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne took up where they left off after the break, with a couple of wides before Eva scored another point from a free.  There was a good passage of play from St Michael’s, where they managed to put over a point , before Hayley J coolly scored a second goal for the Don/Ash ladies,  after the girls had patiently passed the ball from our back line. Our defence both harried and chased back the opposition, keeping them out of the square, but unfortunately a free which initially looked to be heading over the bar, dipped in behind Ciara to result in a goal this time ! Retaliation was swift, with our forward line passing and keeping the ball, then supplying Hayley L, who promptly scored another goal. Ali Fitz came on for Jenny, as Jenny had picked up a knock as a result of a mid-pitch collision. Hayley J , supplemented her goal with another point, before two points from Anna and yet another goal from Hayley L. St Michael’s battled to win the ball at the kick-out, sending the ball right back in but was dealt  with efficiently by Ciara. St Michael’s rallied slightly,  scoring a point either side of a Hayley L point, before a challenge on Ali in the box was judged to be over- robust, and we were awarded a second penalty. This time, the opposition goalie pulled off a save, byt Hayley L put over the rebound for a point.  Hayley added to more points before the referee blew the final whistle, to leave the score at 4-13 to 1-6 to the Donaghmore/Ashbourne Ladies.
