U14 Ladies - County Final Match Report
The U-14 Ladies ended a great season by reaching the Division 1 County Final against Boardsmill, which was played on Sunday 13th September at Dungany. The final scoreline was Boardsmill 3-8, Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-3. It was an unfortunate end to a remarkable season. This very committed and dedicated panel of almost 30 players started training with manager Barry Leahy at the beginning of the year. They won all of their leagues games, which included victories over Ratoath, Royal Gaels, Oldcastle, Navan O’Mahoneys, Simonstown, Dunboyne and Boardsmill earlier this year. They reached the final by beating Dunboyne comprehensively in the semi-final play off.

The County Final was played in ideal conditions and the standard from both teams was exceptionally high. Boardsmill built an early lead with 5 long range points before Sarah Browne scored a brilliant goal for Donaghmore. However Boardsmill responded immediately with a goal of their own which, in effect, secured the win. To their great credit, the Donaghmore/Ashbourne team continued to fight through to the end of the game, and put together some of their trademark free flowing moves, which resulted in some fine scores. However, they encountered a stronger team on the day and have to be satisfied with a very creditable runner-up place in Division 1 of the Championship.

It was a great achievement to reach the County Final with an unbeaten record. This panel of players worked hard and improved greatly during the year. They made a major impact on the Championship, which was reflected in a very strong presence on the County Panel. Michelle Peel, Shelby Leahy, Siofra Cleary, Caroline Brothworth, Ailish Moriarty and Grace O’Sullivan were all part of the Meath U-14 Ladies county team which reached the Leinster Championship Final and won the Leinster Blitz.

Others prominent during the year include Cathy Giblin, who was excellent in goal, defenders Kelly Fitzsimons, Sarah Lehane, Leanne Kenny, Katie Moriarty, Rebecca Elliot, Eimear Murray, Aisling Doyle, Orla McHugh, Niamh Crowther and forwards Sarah Browne, Maggie Randle, Orla Cullen-Geraghty, Rian O’Keefe, Jenny Walton, Sarah Markham, Sophie Heddane, Sarah O’Connor, Kinga Powala, Kim Keneghan & Debbie Coughlan. All members of the panel contributed to a very successful season. The target now for this talented and committed group is to learn from the experience, continue to develop and improve, and to go one step further next time. The future for this team, and for Ladies football at Donaghmore/Ashbourne, is very bright.

U14 girls through to Championship Final!
On Saturday 5th September, the Donaghmore/Ashbourne U-14 Ladies had a great win over Dunboyne in the county semi-final.
This team has had a fantastic season so far, unbeaten in all games and has now deservedly qualified for the County Final with this comprehensive victory.
Dunboyne had home advantage, but Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s dominance is reflected in the final score
of Donaghmore/Ashbourne 5-10  Dunboyne 1-6.

With a large panel of dedicated players, this squad has been very committed in training all year. The key to their success to date is their fitness and their hard work during games. We wish them well in their quest to bring another County title to the club.
