Senior Team Lose out in Dunboyne

Following our qualification for the group stages of the championship at the weekend our senior team travelled to Dunboyne for this round 8 league encounter with confidence but came away empty handed as we suffered our second successive league defeat of the year.
In summary both sides were evenly balanced in terms of scoring opportunities (we had 24 to the home sides 21) but it was a game where our lads gave away too much possession in defence and failed to take our scores at the other end of the field. A seasoned Dunboyne team also showed their experience in controlling the game in the second half and although we tried hard for an equalizing goal in the closing stages of the game the home side’s defence were not in a generous mood. Final Score St Peter's Dunboyne 0-13  Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-10.

Senior Ladies lose out to St Ultan's at Quarter- Final Stage !

The Donaghmore / Ashbourne ladies bowed out of the Senior Championship at the Quarter-Final stage, in Skryne on Wednesday, by a scoreline of 4-15 to 1-6. Match report to follow.

Great Weekend for Adult Football
With our 4th team having already qualified for the quarter finals of the Junior D Championship in their first year in the competition last weekend the focus moved to the other three adult football teams hoping to join them in the playoff stages this weekend.

Friday night the club's second team travelled to Dunboyne to play Summerhill knowing that a victory would ensure qualification to the quarter finals of the Junior A championship. Although a close first half in terms of scores, two quick goals early in the second half from Cathal Field and Eric Callaghan proved the turning point as Donaghmore Ashbourne ran out 2-10 to 0-08 winners. Click here for Match Report

Our third team travelled to Donore early on Sunday for a Noon throw in their Junior C championship game against Castletown. This was another close first half encounter with only two points between the teams at the interval. However with numerical and wind advantage in the second half (Castletown were reduced to 13 before the interval) we should have run out comfortable winners  but made life difficult  as we lost our concentration and shape but managed a 0-11 to 0-05 victory to book a place in the quarter final. Click here for Match Report.

With the Junior teams in the hat the final game of the weekend saw the seniors travel to Athboy to play Oldcastle in their last game of the group stages. In a very tight group it was looking like it might to come down to score difference for qualification. Priority one was a victory and priority two was to increase our point difference and with a bye in the final round we might have to sit and wait. Like the games above the first half was another close affair but a strong second half performance gave our lads a 2-14 to 0-12 winning margin. However in the other game in the group Duleek/Bellewstown produced a great performance to beat Summerhill by 1-15 to 2-08 and both results ensured that our seniors could relax as they topped the group. Match report

Independence Day a success !

Independence Day Celebrations at the club on Saturday were very enjoyable for everyone. The North Eastern Vintage Car Society arrived in a convoy at 2pm. The back car park was taken over by these rare automotive gems. The cars on display were superb and there was much history with these rare early Automobiles. The owners were on hand with all the knowledge about their cars.

The American Football Longest Throw competition was taking place on the main pitch. There was plenty of  competition for the prizes on offer ! The winner of the American Football longest throw for kids was Alex Jones. David Morgan won the adult prize while Aine Ni Mhealoid won the Ladies prize.

DJ Mattie Davis was ringing out all the American Hits as the Garristown Gruffalos baseball Team arrived. The baseball game was between the Gruffalos and Zombies and was commentated by Sean Mitchell. The game went right down to the wire as the teams were level heading into the bottom of the final inning. Alex Jones got a base hit to drive in the final run for Fionn Gallagher Hall to win the game for the Gruffalos. This was at the bottom of the final (6th) Inning and produced a very exciting climax to the game. The scoreline was Gruffalos 5 runs - Zombies 4 runs.

The evening celebrations took place with local artist Wez performing all the American Hits.

The central part of the night was the Hotdog Eating Contest. This was sponsored by SuperValu. As competitors gathered around the tables, who was going to eat most Hotdogs in 6 minutes? As the competition started the pace was frantic. Tony Morgan struggled to keep the food down while Gerry Giblin took a nice steady pace. Padraig Finn was focussed on the task while John Garry was well up with the leaders. It was neck and neck into the final minute but the winner was clear. Jason McEneaney was declared the Hotdog Champ and he won a €50 voucher for SuperValu. Gerry Giblin took 2nd prize.
