Guinness Book of Records
On the 23rd of April 2010 in Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA club, 247 Musicians came together as part of the Trad Ash Music festival to set a world record. This World record attempt was "the largest Number of Musicians Playing the National Anthem Simultaneously". This was an really innovative idea as it has never been attempted before in Ireland or indeed in any other country in the world. There is an official world record already set for "The Largest number of musicians gathered in one location". This current record is set at 1000 Musicians. The Guinness Book of Records Executive Committee have decided to align this new category with the current record and therefore has set a similar minimum level of 1000 Musicians. The Guinness Book of Records get in excess of 60,000 enquires every year and their decision is final. Unfortunately, we have to respect their decision as this is an integral part of the terms and conditions of participation.

That said, we feel we have started something special. Some one somewhere internationally will attempt this National Anthem record and we collectively can say were first to think of it and at least try.

Our World Record Attempt on April 23rd in Ashbourne may not have been officially registered, but it was most definitely one of the most memorable positive family events ever held in our Club. The Trad Ash Committee would like to sincerely thank all those who participated on the day again and feel that this "National Anthem Record" is still worth setting. So lets see what happens at next years Trad Ash Festival in April 2011. Can we do it ? Can we get 1000 x musicians together in our club for this ? Perhaps we could involve all Musicians in Meath ?? Game on !

Up for the Match !

We at Donaghmore / Ashbourne CLG were honoured and delighted to play host to two hurling legends last Saturday night, namely Michael Duignan and Tomas Mulcahy of The Sunday Game , for our very own version of Up for the Match ! Master of Ceremonies Ray Lawton was the man with the questions, and we were treated to in-depth analysis of the All-Ireland final and the merits of the respective teams, as well as a number of real-life hurling anecdotes.

Alison Fitzgerald was the lucky winner of the All-Ireland tickets, and Emma Tormey, PJ Durkan and Pat Monaghan were the successful bidders in the auction for Kilkenny and Tipperary jerseys, and a signed sliotar !

Music was provided on the night by Peter Finnegan, and maybe it was a lucky omen for the Premier County that the club’s Tipperary contingent were able to keep bopping until late !
